Keep an Emergency Contacts list near the phone and make certain that everyone knows how to get in touch, possibly by calling an out-of-state friend or relative.
Learn the basics of Emergency CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) in the event that a life-threatening event occurs to someone close to you.
Gather supplies for a functional First Aid Kit, familiarize yourself with basic first aid skills.
