Interim City Manager Jeff Swanson

The Medina City Council recently appointed Jeff Swanson of EXIGY Consulting as interim city manager to replace retiring city manager Stephen Burns. Swanson comes with extensive public administration experience, including as a city manager and economic development director. Since 2018 as a consultant, Swanson has served as an interim city administrator, finance director, and community and economic development director.

A graduate of Portland State University, Swanson holds a Ph.D (ABD) in systems science, MS degrees in economics and systems science, graduate certificates in environmental/resource economics and computer modeling/simulation, and a BS in economics. A Pacific Northwest native, he lives in Seattle with “Moose”, his giant Leonberger dog.

 

What does a City Manager Do?

The City Manager is the Chief Administrative Officer for the city, providing executive leadership and representation on all matters concerning city government. The duties and responsibilities of the City Manager are in compliance with the City Charter and state statutes. Responsible for planning, directing, managing, and reviewing all activities and operations of the city; coordinates programs, services, and activities among city departments and outside agencies; ensures the financial integrity of the municipal organization; represents the city’s interests; provides highly responsible and complex policy advice to the City Council.
