SR-520 Noise Update
Expansion Joints Noise Update
In April 2016, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) opened the new SR 520 Floating Bridge, a vital transportation link across Lake Washington. However, soon after its debut, residents in Medina’s North Point neighborhood began experiencing persistent and disruptive thumping noises emanating from the bridge’s expansion joints.
Since then, the City of Medina has been actively working with WSDOT and the Washington State Legislature to address these concerns. Through ongoing discussions, research, and advocacy, Medina remains committed to finding effective noise reduction solutions that balance infrastructure needs with the well-being of its residents.
