City of Medina Memorials Donation Process
The desire to donate a tree, for public enjoyment to celebrate the memory of a beloved person or pet has been a tradition in Medina that has been a benefit to park patrons and the City. In order to assist with these requests and accomplish the donation, some simple rules should be understood.
- Trees require planting, watering, fertilization, and on-going maintenance to remain in optimum condition. The City has limited resources to accomplish this; therefore, the selection of a tree must be governed by the species and variety of the tree, the location where it is to be planted, time of year for planting, size of the tree, etc.
- Planting in a park should be in accordance with the overall landscape plan for the park; this will be verified by the Park Superintendent following submission of a request to the City.
- Species and variety should be compatible with the desired location and environmental needs of the plant.
- Size of tree is limited to 2-inch caliper balled and burlapped tree. Larger root mass requires special equipment for planting that cannot be accomplished by the City.
- Trees will only be planted at optimum planting time (late October through early December during wetter weather but not freezing), digging of trees in nurseries for transplanting is best in the fall to insure better survival of the tree.
- The City does not warranty the survival of the tree and cannot promise that your tree will receive special care. It needs to survive transplanting and thrive on its own.
- Often, tree donations are accompanied with a memorial plaque; however, this is not a requirement.
