What building codes does The City of Medina use?

The City of Medina has adopted the Washington State Building Code, with amendments.

How long do I have to wait until my permit is issued?

Unfortunately, we do not give out timelines for permits. Permits are reviewed on a first come first served basis.

 

How much will my permit cost?

All permit fees are different and can be based off of valuation and/or a fixed rate. When you apply for your permit, you will be able to see your affiliated fees.

 

When are mechanical, gas, and plumbing permits required?

Mechanical permits are required for the addition, replacement, repair or alteration of mechanical systems such as furnaces, air-conditioning systems, heat-pumps, or vents.

 

Gas permits are required for the addition, replacement, repair or alteration of gas lines, propane tanks, and associated piping for flammable liquids.

 

Plumbing permits are required for all plumbing work including water service, drains, water mains, sewage disposal systems and related fixtures and appliances.

 

Is a permit required for a fence?

A building-fence permit is required except for fences not over 4 feet in height above the existing or finished grade, whichever is lower. Or, fences or repair to existing fences over 4 feet in height, but less than 6 feet in height above the existing or finished grade, whichever is lower, and not exceeding a fair market value of $3,000.00. This exemption shall not apply to structures designed or intended to be used for sound attenuation purposes.

 

Is a permit required for a shed?

A building permit is required for any small structure which will be used for living or as an office. There is an exception for one-story detached accessory structures used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses and similar uses, provided the floor area does not exceed 120 square feet.

 

What are the allowed hours for construction?

Commercial construction and development activities may take place only between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on weekdays.

On Saturdays, commercial construction and development activities may occur between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

No such work is allowed on Sundays or city observed holidays set forth in RCW 1.16.050(1).
